The Gouwekerk, a national heritage building constructed in 1902-1904, is found on Hoge Gouwe in Gouda’s historical centre. What sets this church apart is its 80-metre steeple, which is actually the city’s tallest landmark. The monumental church building and the adjacent rectory were acquired a number of years ago by a private investor, on whose behalf White House Development will be managing the property’s redevelopment.
A key point of departure is that the structural adaptations required for the church’s redevelopment have minimal impact on the Gouwekerk’s cultural, historical and spatial character. Over the next few months, we will be carefully reviewing which opportunities there are to assign new roles to the vacant building. Possible options include plans for a Food Hall and other public functions.
